Volunteering in Wichita, Kansas

Building Repair and Maintenance

Specific duties:
Work with other volunteers to repair and maintain a former school building, which now houses the Trees for Life International office. The building was constructed in 1938 and has been maintained in excellent condition. It needs preventive maintenance and upkeep, and occasional remodeling for current usage.

Minimum requirements:
Good hands-on work skills which may include light carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and all-around general construction ability. Some experience with power tools helpful.

Graphic Design Artist

Specific duties:
Design graphics and layout for presentations, newsletters, other publications, and web pages.

Minimum requirements:
Requires graphic art degree or similar work experience and ability. Also requires flexibility, ability to work as part of a team, and ability to give and take constructive criticism and make revisions.

PP 2013, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Soundbooth, InDesign, Bridge, Photography experience welcome

Custodian

Specific duties:
Keep building in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing carpets, washing windows and doors, and removing rubbish. Duties may include safety check of boiler, performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs, and cleaning snow or debris from sidewalk.

Minimum requirements:
In good physical condition. Some experience is helpful.

"To Be Defined"

Specific duties:
This position is not defined yet, because we haven't met you yet. To us, working with a volunteer is an organic process. It is a dance between knowing who you are, where your passion is, and what Trees for Life is currently doing. We will work with you to discern what your strengths are and areas where you can grow. It is a dance to see how your passion may fit into what Trees for Life is doing and also to see how you can go further—to things you haven't even imagined.

Minimum requirements

Passion for service, desire to learn and grow, flexibility, ability to work as part of a team, knowledge of self, ability to give and take constructive criticism, sense of personal responsibility, willingness to try new things. Requirements are weighted as 5% Skills, 5% Ability to work with a team, and 90% Attitude.
